Seeing, witnessing, and recording the places around us became important to me during Dr. Laura Runge’s Literature of Place: Florida course, which I took in the fall of 2015. This course connected literature to physical places. For instance, we visited Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings’s farmstead at Cross Creek after reading her novel The Yearling. We also visited Payne’s Prairie, a site explored by William Bartram and discussed in his Travels. We composed photo essays about our experience and were then instructed to find another Florida landmark, park, or other meaningful place to visit.
The photography produced for these assignments, along with other photos of me performing dissertation research, are now a vital part of my memories as a student scholar. Please enjoy a sample of these photos below.
